Two Weeks until July Event!

We hope everyone has been doing well. The big announcements for this posting are that our August and September event locations unfortunately will be moving. Hard Labor Creek state park will be having a movie filming at the group camp for those months; as such we will be having event at A. H. Stephens in August, and Indian Springs in September. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

As for next event, in July, please remember that opening ceremonies will be at 9pm on Friday. Game-on will be shortly after! If you have not been to a combat safety course this year at Xadune you will be required to go to one before you are allowed in-play. This course will be held right after opening ceremonies. If you miss it, you will be required to wait until the next opening to have one Friday night, which could be as late as midnight. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

We have some pretty good promotions for new players, so start getting your friends hyped to come out to LARP. As a reminder, vaccination is still required to show up on site. Proof of vaccination will be required BEFORE the event. For next event we will also be requiring pre-registration for the event, so please sign up. Like last event, we will NOT allow walk-on admission. Pre-registration does not require pre-payment; however, you can still pay on site.

Volunteer sign-up will be posted Monday, June 28th at 7pm. You have been warned! First come, first sign-up. We hopefully will also have a menu sample next week as well. Remember it will be July, which is blazing hot. It could be muggy, but no matter what it will be hot. Bring things to make sure you are comfortable, and be prepared to drink a ton of water! Answers to questions that have been sent in should be all responded to by Sunday night of this weekend. That is all for this announcement. We miss you all, and hope you are having a great summer so far! See you guys in two weeks!

Refer a Friend Promotion

We all have that friend that says they want to try LARPing, but just can’t seem to make it to event. If they are in need of convincing, we’ve got a great promotion for the both of you!

$70 – the cost of regular admission and 3XP donation – gets you both these things, PLUS your friend’s new player admission, AND gets them a bonus 5 starting XP (starting at 25XP instead of 20). That is a total savings of $45 for both you and your friend!

As an extra bonus, if your friend comes back to the next event, you get 100u at check in.

This is our biggest promotion to date, so be sure to take advantage of it. In essence, its a discounted ticket for both of you – $35 each – plus 8XP. Or you could think of it as a free ticket for your new player, with bonus starting XP. No matter how you split it, it is still a great deal.

A new player is defined as someone who has not previously played Xadune. A veteran player is someone who has previously played Xadune. Both players must submit their medical information form prior to Friday, July 2nd and must have proof of full vaccination (2 dose of Pfizer or Moderna or 1 dose of J&J). This offer is only available online.

Updates on July 2021 Event and CPC Test

Four weeks until the next event, and we are putting together a good one we feel. We are two weeks from our previous event and everyone is healthy and good, which means we are awesome! However, we are still in a pandemic and your safety is number one. We would love new players and returnees; more so, vaccination is still required. Like pervious event, pre-registration for the event will be required to attend. No walk-on entries again this event. Pre-registration does not require pre-payment. Proof of vaccination for new players and new returnees will be required as well. That all said, lets find some more people to bring to and back to game! More players mean we can run more things. More things mean more action and excitement! We will be continuing the new player promotions for the rest of this year and are in the works with promotions for bringing new players as well. We heard a rumor that IP money and items might be as much or more incisive than the XP rewards… we will see what we can accommodate.

As some might have heard we are doing the Fire Festival next event, traditionally something players have only seen in Ward 1. We wonder how Ward 5 handles the festival. For players this means little, honestly. Its not a huge thing that character really know about on the Island nor should they do anything different for the event other than show up. But that’s all in-play stuff, and we can talk more in-depth about that in future updates.

Opening ceremonies will be at 9 o’clock this event. That’s thirty minutes earlier then last event. And spoilers it will be thirty minutes even earlier for the August event. We saw players had zero issues getting to site and inn-play in time and we loved having the extra time, we are going to maximize for more now! Those of you that were at last event will get to be in-play shortly after opening ceremonies, those that haven’t been to a safety course this ear at our game will however not be allowed to get in-play until they attend one. This course will be directly after opening ceremonies. Missing the course will mean you have to wait until we have the time to gather anyone else that might have missed the first one and give another. DO NOT BE THE PERSON THAT MISSES THIS.

Dinner and food will of course be available Friday night and all weekend. A pan-oceanic menu will be the highlight for the weekend, though we will of course have or normal favorites available as well. We will be attempting to have a sneak peek at some menu items before the event, so check back in at future updates for those.

Last up for this update we will talk about Plot teams. We have had a few inquiries about it. At this time, we would like game to grow back to its more comfortable size before putting together another plot team. That means let’s pump those numbers up and then we can talk about your season long commitment to torturing your friends. With that said we are buckling down on the content we will have being ran at Xadune and as such have been working on a system to help us make sure our vision of Xadune is met when others run things in the world. As such we have come up with the CRC: Content Runners Certification.
The CRC is a test which must be retaken every year by someone that wants to run content at Xadune. Depending on your experience with game and length of time you have run things for Xadune effects the tier of CRC you can have. There are currently three tiers. The requirements to test for a CRC is as follows:

 – Must have played the game for at least 9 events.
 – Must have attended the past 5 event for at least a half event prior to testing.
 – Must be in good standing – no formal warnings or bans on their record for the past year.
 – Must pass the CRC Test with 80% or higher.

The CRC test is a fifty-question test comprised of short answer, true/false, multiple choice, and essay style questions as well as two test modules. Can be attempted twice every 5 events or half year. The test must be taken in-person with a Staff or Story Team member present the entire time. Certification lasts (1) year from time approved, after which one can update their cert by taking a shorter refresher test with-in three months of their CRC expiring.

Part of the test is running two test modules with supervision. These will be mods the CRC applicant will develop with the aid of a Staff or Story-team member. The first mod is heavily supervised and assistance will be given with stating, loot, and general ideas. The second mod is less supervised and be more of a demonstration of the CRC applicant’s talents. Feedback is given after each mod.

Certification can be revoked for the following reasons:

○ Receiving a Formal Warning
○ Failing to adhere to or enforce the Xadune rules
○ Running unapproved content at Xadune

So that’s a lot of work for this, what does it get you? A CRC allows a person to submit mods to run during the event. Upon approval, mod will be scheduled and ran. Depending on the tier level depends on what you can run. Tiers are earned by years of experience running mods at Xadune.

Tiers
– 1st year certification: Can run one mod an event, during the day time only. These are not allowed to be Town Battles or mods that are designed for more than 8 players.
– 2nd year certification: Can run up to two mods an event. Can run nighttime mods. These are not allowed to be Town Battles, or mods that are designed for more than 15 players.
– 3rd year certification: Can run Town Battles. Large, inclusive battles or events which are designed to engage at least 75% of town. Story ideas can also be far reaching and last an entire event or multiple if required.

All mods for all levels of certification must be submitted in full to Xadune Staff and can only be run with approval of Xadune Staff.

Gaining certification levels requires running content at two events per every three events over the course of a year. Should a mod be missed, the CRC holder may be allowed to make up the missed event’s content by doubling up at an event. More details on that as the need arises.

Finally, previous (and future) Plot experience will count towards certification level time. So, if you have served on Plot in the past, you can take you CRC and start off at Tier 2. For future reference, the CRC test will be required for those of you that want to be on plot in the future.

And for those of you curious about what is on the test: anything and everything Xadune. Test questions will be pulled form a pool we have been making over the past few years, so no test should be alike. Questions range from being straight forward rules questions, to important historical questions about the game. Knowing the PHB is the first step in preparing for the CRC. Learning the history of the in-play game would be the next. Lastly, we will say their will be marked situational questions. These questions have no right or wrong answer in a sense that we are looking for a sense on how you will handle yourself in the situations. We need content runners that will not just entertain the players of Xadune, but also help us make sure everyone is playing fairly and within our set rules. We need people that can enforce this when needed, not just turn a blind eye.

Well, that about covers it for this week’s update. We hope everyone is doing great and we look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!

May 2021 Volunteer Shift Signups

Monster Shifts are denoted as (M)
Tavern Shifts are denoted as (T)

Please sign up for a Volunteer Shift. Failure to complete a Volunteer Shift will result in a forfeiture of XP for the event. Read more about Volunteer Shifts here.

Shopping List, Monster Shift Changes, and Not Being That Person

NINE DAYS BOYS AND GIRLS!

Hope everyone is doing well. This week on DON’T BE THAT PERSON we have a lot to cover. For starters, unless you get the one-shot vaccine sadly you are past the point of getting started being vaccinated and being allowed to come to event. However, if you couldn’t get the vaccination process started in time for this event that just means next event is primed for your presence. Everyone else, if you know someone or have a friend that is vaccinated that you want to enjoy your secret love with, now is the time to get them to sign up.

As a reminder we will not be allowing walk one players this event. That means you will have to preregister to be allowed on site. That’s preregister, not prepay; you can still pay for game on site (as well as add money to your tavern tab, donate, and all buy all the fun stuff).Speaking of buying things we have a list of things we are doing different starting this event.

Shopping: Merchanting; and Crafting

First off: visiting shops. Listed below is a list of general good items that general players can find and the prices for said items. These items can be purchased BEFORE event and you will get the items during check-in (more covered on that later). This list’s pricing is only good until the Wednesday before event. All items attempted to be purchased after then will be ignored and be void. Prices are subject to change as time passes and from event to event.

Shopping at event will be limited to players with appropriate skills or Guild connections. If you do not know what that means then that means you are not included. As a last note on the subject: quantities are limited and items can sell out, so first come first serve basis!

Currently we are looking at about 25 people on site, which is a small but safe event. I am fine with this. Honestly, I am good with about 30 but for a starter event would not want more. So, if you know anyone that would want to monster or play and they are qualified, let them know to pre-register! Also remember to submit your vaccination card. I believe we have most of you, but just a general reminder. It is required!

Seriously, don’t be that person

Alright, time to NOT BE THAT PERSON! Opening ceremonies will be at 9:00pm Friday. If you are not there you will miss the format of the event and be out of the loop on the changes that have occurred from previous live events. Crab monsters will raid your cabin at 5am. The Twilight will infect your dreams. BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN if you are not there and available to go directly to the REQUIRED safety course for all players. It’s been over a year since we swung foam at each other. Everyone needs to retake the course as a refresher. Directly after that we will be going into a series of Island devised mods. How will this work out? What is the in-play connections? No clue, you will have to NOT BE THAT PERSON and show up to find out. Not being part of all these key events, starting at 9:00pm, will require you to wait until the next slot of things happening so you can jump in. You will be required to wait. You will be out-of-play, you will miss loot, you will miss out on role-play, you will not get to go on some of the mods, and you will not get you check-in stuff until you get a slot and get in on the action. So… DON’T BE THAT PERSON!

Volunteer Shift Changes

Of the things that are different one will be discussed now: volunteer shifts. More then 75% of the fifty plus LARPs available in the Southeast require a three-hour shift. After a decade of varied amounts depending on the job (2 hours for NPCing, 3 hours for Tavern, and 4 hours for Clean-up) we are going to the standardized three hour required shift across the board. Sometimes we will have offers for doing things for less time to count towards more time given, but if you want to know more about that you will have to be at opening ceremonies. We will say that each of you will do at least 30 minutes to an hour of quick NPCing Friday night, thus leaving you with only needing to fulfill 2 hour shifts for the rest of the event.

We will be having pre-sign-up for Saturday for NPCing and Clean-up. There are 25 shifts available, and the list will be posted up next Monday, the 17th of May, at 7:00pm. A time frame everyone should be okay with logging-in, looking things over, and signing up for a shift. We will have a form made up to accommodate this.

That was a lot of information this week. We are almost there! We are going to get to LARP again! Between buying things and the NPC sign-up announcement we should be able to tell that everyone has been reading these so we don’t get the “well, I don’t read the ___” excuse from “that person”. DON NOT BE THAT PERSON! We miss you all and can not wait to get to see you all again. Everyone stay safe! More information on things next week, and then… GAME ON!

Forums Update, Cards, and the May Event

Good morning all! Twenty-five days until the event!

As an update, cards are (mostly) up. However, on your way to see your card, you might notice we have removed the Forums link from the static page! We are transitioning away from the Xadune Forums. This means a few things:

  • All game questions should be submitted here: https://xadune.com/submit-a-question/
  • You are not required to, but you may create an account on the static page.  This will have a link to your character card, and it will also save your contact information to make purchasing more convenient.  Oh, and you can see your order history.  Register for an account here: https://xadune.com/registration-2/
  • At any time, you can request a link to your character card.  This is a permanent link, so you could bookmark it and see your card whenever.  Or, of course, you could create an account above and have it available to you as well.
  • Currently, there is messaging available on the static site.  This is in beta, and we will see how it goes.
  • All announcements will be made on the static site.  Typically they are referenced on Discord and all our social media as well, but the static site is your one-stop-shop.

Additionally we want to remind everyone that opening ceremonies will be at 9:00pm on Friday. All players, I mean all of you, will be required to retake a combat safety course before allowed to go in-play. After our mass safety course(s) we will then be transitioning to a collection of separate mods as a reintroduction to Xadune and LARPing. This is a change from our normal event schedule, but we are treating this more like our first event with a hand in getting us back into the swing of things.

Missing the safety course or mod train will mean you will be required to wait till the next slot to get into play. THERE WILL BE NO ONE ALLOWED TO SHOW UP AFTER MIDNIGHT AND JUST GET IN PLAY. You will have to wait for an open slot for a safety course and then a open slot to jump into the mod-train. SO SHOW UP ON TIME! From how it’s looking we are guessing “game-on” will be around 10ish or so. From there we will be doing the mod rotations that player will be on. We are scheduling for about an hour to an hour and a half rotations; so if you miss that train you might have to wait till 11ish-midnight to get on the next set. DON’T BE THAT PERSON!

More to come as we get closer to the event! Have a great week everyone!

Xadune May 2021 Live Action Roleplay Event

Get ready, Xadune is hosting an in-person, live event!

After over a year, we are finally hosting an in-person event. Not to say the Virtual Events weren’t awesome, but I think we are all incredibly excited to get back to what we do best: hit people with foam sticks.

COVID-19 Restrictions and Policy

We are requiring proof of full vaccination to attend this event. This means two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. There will be no exceptions to this. Failure to provide proof of vaccination will result in expulsion from site. Moreover, if you have experienced any symptoms of COVID-19 or have tested positive in the past two weeks, you will also be asked to leave.

While that sounds all scary, there is a Medical Information Form where you can upload an image of your vaccination card! The Medical Information Form will also ask you about allergies or chronic diseases that the Medic team should be aware of, should you require medical assistance on site. Everyone needs to complete a Medical Information Form prior to selecting a cabin.

Event Size and Spacing

We are limiting the event to 45 players. With our Staff and Storyteam, this will mean a maximum of 50 people on site. While the CDC does not give direct guidance on mass gathering sites, given the size of Daniel Morgan, we feel this event size will allow for proper social distancing.

For this event, we will not be allowing walk-in players. You MUST pre-register (different from pre-pay) for the event, or you will be turned away. To pre-register, you will be required to complete the Medical Information Form and upload an image of your vaccination card. There are no exceptions to this. Safety is the utmost importance.

We are asking players to chose their cabins based on their pods. No more than 8 players can be in a cabin.

Additionally, we will be blocking the road into Daniel Morgan after Opening Ceremonies. We will be closing (not locking) the gate after all Pre-registered players have arrived. this is to prohibit lost campers from wandering on site.

Symptom Screening

All players will be asked a series of questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms and exposure at Check-in, and will have their temperature checked via touchless thermometer.

Hygiene

We will have soap and paper towels available in all restrooms, and we encourage players to wash their hands regularly. Hand Sanitizer will be available at multiple locations around site. Additionally, Makeup Races will not be required to paint their hands. Moreover, we are encouraging all players to bathe during the event.

High Touch Areas

Boffers, Foam Blasters, and shared costuming (read: monster clothes) will be sanitized after every mod with sanitizing wipes and/or spray. Boffers and Foam Blasters will additionally undergo UV sanitization as an extra precautionary measure . High touch areas, such as tavern tables and mod buildings, will be sanitized regularly.

Masks

Based on CDC guidelines for vaccinated individuals, we are not requiring (but heavily encouraging) mask in general play areas.

However, all players must bring a mask. Tavern workers are required to wear a mask at all times. You may be asked to wear a mask in enclosed spaces (such as mod buildings). We will have Xadune cloth masks for sale at Check-in and a limited number of disposable masks available.

Event Timing and Changes

In an effort to ensure you get the most out of your Xadune experience, we are moving Opening Ceremonies to 9pm on Friday. This means players need to be on site, checked in, dressed, and in the Tavern at 9pm. Due to the below Safety Refresher Course, late arrivals will miss content. If you arrive late, you will not be allowed to be in play until after a Safety Refresher Course and until a group is available. This could be a while – showing up at 9:30 might put you out of play until midnight. Please plan accordingly.

Because it has been so long since we last played, we will be conducting a safety refresher course that all players are required to attend. We will go over the basics – headbands, physical roleplay, and safe boffer fighting – as well as boffer sparring to help get everyone readjusted.

Virtual LARP Workout

We haven’t been able to LARP in person in a year, and it’s time to get in shape before the next in-person event.

Ward 5 is never really a calm place, but recently the random muggings have at least decreased. It makes a person feel safe to walk around without worrying too much.

Which is why when you turn the corner and spot a rather large gelatinous cube making its way down an alleyway, it comes as a bit of a shock. The square hunk of goo notices you, and begins to make its way towards you. Inside, you can clearly see the body of what appears to be bones of something… human-sized. You could run away, but leaving this creature loose in the Ward doesn’t seem like the smartest idea…

Rules:

Choose which level of creature you want to fight.

Deal your normal damage with each exercise.
Can be completed individually, or in a group of up to three – but he XP will be divided across the group.

Must record your workout and send it to Xadune Staff as proof of completion (these will not be made public).

You can only gain experience for one defeated creature per week.

Example:

Alara comes across a Gelatinous Cube! She chooses the Level 3 (100 Body) to fight.
Alara deals 5 Normal Pierce with a Spear; 5 Flaming with a spell at 1 Skill Point; and 20 Accurate Pierce with a firearm at 10 Skill Points.

Emily then does 10 Squats (10×5 Flaming), a 10 second Plank (1×20 Accurate Pierce), and finishes it off with 6 Lunges (6×5 Normal Pierce). Alara spent 20 Skill Points, well within her Max Skill Points.

It’s Just How Things Are

The feline race of Xadune has been infamous as being an abrasive race for as long as any one mortal can remember.  But until about two decades previous to our current year, the entire race vanished as if it never existed.  After almost a year without this diverse culture, all but their Gnoll rivals had forgotten they had ever existed.  When the year turned and started a new chapter, the Feline emerged once again.  When that time came, things were even more different than anyone had anticipated.

Dodging the limbs of fallen trees, her feet naturally find soft undergrowth to dig into the moist earth to help push her along.  The slender feline had been running for so long now she could hear her heartbeat in her ears.  Draya saw a town coming ever closer as she ran, scanning the borders for an oncoming threat, gave her inspiration to continue.  Occasionally she would look over her shoulder to see if she lost her pursuer, eyes darting around quickly and processing the new information.  The sparse woods of Central Pha had provided her with great cover for the time being, but it was hard to mislead one that can hunt better than she could.

Upon approaching the town within a hundred paces, she slowed her run to a jog and getting closer still, she slowed to a walk.  Walking into the town she bowed her head, hiding the perspiration that was begging to run down the sides of her face.  Occasionally she shook her head as venders beg for her attention and approach to try to lead her to their goods.  The sounds of the busy market rang in her ears as if she could hear for the first time.  A sound like no other caught her attention, making her left ear turn behind her to pick it up clearer.  It rang out again, something so subtle to make her skin crawl.  Armor plating grating against the chain mail underneath drawing closer with each step the person took, walking with a purpose, this may very well be her pursuer.

Darting around the corner of a shop she hid in the alley, sinking against the wall, letting the silence deafen her for a moment before the pursuer walked by the same alley she hid in.  Taking a deep breath, she held it in for a moment or two before she felt strong enough to peek up through her sweat stained hair.  Draya’s pursuer walks in front of the alley slowly, looking down to acknowledge her.  A large male feline in plate and chain mail wore a smirk across his face as if showing her his victory in a small way.  The eye contact they made for that brief moment filled her heart with dread, she knew she was trapped.  It was too late to turn back now.  With her legs heavy and exhaustion encumbering her, she tries to stand but falls to no avail.  Tears fill her eyes but too stubborn and her pride standing in the way of letting them fall, she forces herself to her feet.

Pushing one leg forward at a time, she drags herself out of the alley where the male awaited across the way, leaning against a shop with his arms crossed wearing a smug look.  Walking away from the building he heads the way they came, out of the city, with Draya 20 paces behind as two other large feline fall in behind her several paces back.

This is how it was, the smaller feline would come to town wearing collars to get goods and leave without saying a word.  The larger feline would come to the city looking for smaller feline, both male and female, and if found they would follow without a fight.  Rarely would a non-collared docile feline come to town alone and if they did, it was assumed the dominant would follow soon after.  No one questioned it; it is just how things were.

2021 LARP Event Schedule

2020 brought a number of unexpected, and often unwanted, surprises. While we can’t promise that 2021 will be any better, we are planning for the best and being flexible for the worst.

There are seven in-person events planned this year and one virtual event. As with last year, we will be monitoring the state of COVID-19 in our area and may adjust in-person events to virtual events as needed.

We can’t wait to see you there!
